Green light to the narrative

Good news! From the University we have been asked for a new assignment that addresses the issue of narrative in video games. At first, it had been thought of working on a new project from scratch and some ideas had been taken into consideration, but what better idea could there be than to develop the narrative of Arma X?

The problem is that since they are two different academic projects, it would be difficult to distinguish between what is the Final Year Project and what is part of the Narrative assignment. But after discussing it with my academic instructors, an agreement has been reached where both projects can converge in order to develop the story of Arma X.

As can be read in the original GDD of Arma X, the project had a history but it was not planned to develop it in depth, much less implement it. But thanks to this opportunity, it can be said that the Arma X narrative has been given the green light. From here, my thanks to those who have given me this opportunity. That being said, let's move on to what brings us to this blog today: the narrative.

Each story has three important points: introduction, middle and end. Arma X also has a prologue that will contextualize the players so that they quickly understand the world in which the game takes place. This part is designed to be introduced as an intro before the game starts.

The prologue will narrate events that never happened in real life, therefore we are talking about a dystopian world where Nazi Germany conquers Europe and continues a war that is far from over.

Once the game has started the player will discover the following narrative plot:

A secret agent is sent to a Nazi military base located in Iceland. The mission of this agent is to verify if the Nazis are installing nuclear weapons on the island that threatens the North American nations. The agent is informed that a senior Nazi official is on the base and that he is carrying top-secret information. The agent's mission, in addition to verifying the existence of nuclear weapons, is to obtain said information, although with this he has to eliminate the Nazi officer.

Once infiltrated into the base, the agent looks for proof of the nuclear weapons and finds them after having evaded the high security of the enemy base. Once the agent informs his Colonel of these weapons, he looks for the Nazi officer to get hold of the information he is guarding. When the agent finds the officer, a confrontation arises between them and the agent ends up killing the officer and then taking over the secret information. The information deals with the existence of a weapon capable of emitting a powerful electromagnetic pulse that disables all electronic devices in a wide radius, which is a weapon that could leave any enemy nation of the Nazis defenseless, said weapon is called Arma X.

After informing the Colonel of the tragic situation, the alarms of the Nazi military base sound since the agent has been detected during his combat against the officer. Fleeing from him, the agent finds an old fighter plane in a hangar at the base and makes his way onto the landing strip under enemy fire. Once he takes off, he heads towards the Greenland coast where an extraction team will help him return to Canada.
