Star Rock 2.0

The second version of the prototype is already here and with it comes not only changes based on the last report but also new additions that make this version an almost finished product in academic terms.

Optimization

For starters, the prototype includes resolution and graphics settings options so that the game can run on low-performance devices. So now the game runs a stable frame rate, making the gaming experience much more enjoyable.

Tutorial and new control scheme

In this version of the game, some initial levels have been included as a tutorial to clarify the new control system that the game has. In the previous version, the player controlled the ship with a joystick attached to the bottom left corner and this concept has been scrapped by an invisible floating joystick. That is, the player can control the ship from any point on the screen for more convenience, so it fits the needs of left-handed and right-handed players.

Power-ups

Not only the controls have been reworked, but the powerups have also been carefully reworked so now the firing range is much greater and much more visible on the screen. The old shooting modes have been improved and this update brings a laser shot and homing shots that chase the enemy.

New obstacles and level concepts

In this version, in addition to several tutorial levels and keeping the original levels of the game, a couple more levels focused on avoiding obstacles have been added. These levels are based on classic arcade games and are part of a small tribute that the development team wanted to implement. On this occasion, the games that have inspired the development of these levels are Tetris and Pong.

The game has also added new obstacles in the original levels of the game and more are planned to be included in the future. For now, the player can find a new obstacle that shoots a laser beam that must be avoided.

Functional Reward System

In the previous patch, when the level ended, a screen would appear indicating the number of stars and points obtained in that level which did not work. In this new version, the reward system is fully functional and now the player can get feedback on his performance in the game.

Sounds

Finally, one of the most important aspects for the game to feel alive and transmit intensity in the gameplay is the sound. The first prototype had not included any sound and this could have caused the player to find the gameplay a bit dull and empty. In this patch, this problem is solved since both sound effects and ambient music have been incorporated into all levels of the game. Why don't you try the game and tell us how it feels?
